We give top dollar for trades, but of course, there are factors that can affect the trade value. Mileage, Year, Make, Model, Service History, and the condition can all change the trade in value.
That depends on a few different factors. Keeping up with regularly scheduled service intervals will help keep your Harley on the road for years to come. We’ve seen bikes with over 100,000 miles come through our service department! Take care of your ride, and you’ll have many miles of happy riding!
New Harley-Davidson Motorcycles will have a recommended service at 1,000 miles and every 5,000 after that. Some models such as Springers and V-Rods may require additional service intervals.

The most important step in maintaining your bike is by making sure you have your bike serviced regularly (every 5,000 miles.) Be sure to always check the air pressure in the tires, check the oil and have it changed regularly, check all other fluids in the bike and replace them when needed and have your brakes serviced every 2 years. It is also important to keep your bike clean and protected from harmful elements!
No, motorcycle tires cannot be rotated.
This will depend on riding characteristics and road conditions. You can generally get 9,000 – 12,000 miles per rear tire and 16,000 – 20,000 miles on the front tire. These tires are considered soft tires and are prone to drying out over time. It is recommended to have your tires replaced every 3 years. Keep track of the date code on each tire.
It is recommended that you change the oil every 2,500 miles for conventional oil and 5,000 miles for synthetic oil.
Normal battery life is about 3 – 5 years. Using a battery tender promotes longer battery life, often times lasting 5-10 riding seasons.
Ride it! If you don’t want to ride in the elements, we recommend you store your bike in a dry, climate controlled space. Be sure to do the following: add fuel stabilizer to your tank, fill up your brake fluid, clutch and coolant fluid reservoirs, change the oil and filter plug, ensure your battery’s charge by using a battery tender, fill the air in your tires and spin the wheels once a week, and cover your bike to keep it from getting dirty.
There are four ways your Harley-Davidson can be customized: by fit, function, style, and performance. The fit can be altered to keep you comfortable on the motorcycle. (i.e. having the bike raised or lowered; swapping out the handlebars for a better reach.) Function can be customized based on your riding style. Will you be riding only around town or taking the bike on long trips (i.e. storage and luggage options.) More into performance? (Exhaust, Engine Work, Etc.) The style can be customized based on your personal vision. Want your Harley Blacked out? Chromed out? Custom Paint? We can do that! You can meet with one of our customization specialists to build your dream bike!
Yes, there is a 1-year warranty on Genuine Harley-Davidson Parts & Accessories products. Most aftermarket products have a warranty of 90 days. Your Harley-Davidson parts and accessories may qualify for H-D Custom Coverage.
With HD Custom Coverage, any Genuine Harley-Davidson part bought and installed by Harley-Davidson of Fort Wayne within 60 days of your new Harley purchase can be included in your 2-year factory warranty.
Never power wash the bike! Use soft soaps and make sure the bike is fully cooled off before washing. Use only manufacturer approved cleaning products. Harley-Davidson has a full line of cleaning products, including waxing and polishing items to keep the bike shiny and protected. Bug Slide products work great to keep bugs from sticking to the bike. Check with the Parts Department for more cleaning tips and products.
We recommend a riding jacket, helmet, boots, gloves and protective eyewear. There is a wide variety of protective gear, including different styles and functionality. All riding gear has different features and benefits depending on what conditions the protective gear is made for (i.e. weather) and the price points. Our MotorClothes Specialists can help you find the gear you need for your personal fit.
It is not required in the state of Indiana to wear a helmet if you are over the age of 18. Every state has a different helmet law. If you are not in Kentucky or plan to ride through a different state, check that state’s helmet laws here. You should note that Indiana does require riders to wear eye protection when operating a Motorcycle on public roadways.
It is recommended that you get a new helmet every five years as the liner inside the helmet breaks down over time making the helmet less effective. It is also recommended to replace your helmet if it is accidentally dropped as this can cause the helmet to crack, even sometimes in places you cannot see.
We recommend you try out a Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Chapter. Here at Harley-Davidson of Fort Wayne, we have the 3 Rivers H.O.G. Chapter. Chapter, you can attend rides and events that take place at various locations in your city such as dealerships, bars, etc. Many cities have social media pages for riders who can share locations for meetups and other rides and events, or you can stop by a dealership and make friends during your visit! At Harley-Davidson Of Fort Wayne, we have events every weekend throughout the year! In the world of Harley-Davidson...there are no strangers, just friends you haven't met yet.
Riders ride, of course. But you can also find them taking part in charity events, bike nights, poker runs and more. You can check out Harley-Davidson.com, our Event Calendar, or social media pages for local events!
Take it slow and treat the experience as you would if you were a new rider again. Maybe take a motorcycle safety course to brush up on safety and motorcycle maneuvering skills. Also, be sure you have the proper safety gear.
Be prepared, this will happen to you! Purchase rain gear to help keep you dry and visible while in the rain. If it rains too hard, or you do not feel comfortable riding in the rain, pull over and take shelter whether it’s under a bridge or the nearest restaurant.
The most important thing is to shake yourself off and remember: this happens to everyone. If your Harley-Davidson was running, turn off the engine and ignition and check to make sure no fluids are leaking. Make sure the bike is in gear so that it does not start rolling once it’s upright. Here is a video on the best ways to pick up a fallen motorcycle. Assess your Harley for any damage. If you think your bike needs to be looked at, bring it into your local dealership to check it over.
First, be sure to check your Harley-Davidson for safety. If your Harley-Davidson has saddlebags or a tour pack, use these to store items you wish to take on your trip! If you do not have these on your bike, you can add a luggage rack to store your luggage bags. Be sure not to overload your bike, and distribute the weight evenly. Harley-Davidson has a full line of luggage and other products to help you travel with ease!
