The History of the Harley-Davidson® Softail® Motorcycle
While it might seem like the Softail® family of Harley-Davidson® motorcycles has been around forever, it’s actually only been a couple of decades. Of course, in that short time, the family has swiftly expanded from one model to feature many different styles. Read on to learn more about the history of the Softail® motorcycle family.
Making of a Legend
One of the reasons that so many people enjoy Harley-Davidson® motorcycles in the first place is their infinite customizability. In the 1970s, Bill Davis, a mechanical engineer, wanted to customize his Super Glide® motorcycle to give it a cushioned rear suspension system. He then brought his prototype bike and design to Harley-Davidson, where the design was refined and released as the Softail® in 1983.
Today’s Models
The Softail® family comes in a diverse range of styles, offering something for pretty much every type of rider. Whether you want a narrower bike like the Softail® Slim or a big and brawny bike like the Fat Boy® or a stylish throwback like the Heritage Softail Classic®, there’s a Softail® that has the stylings and features you need for enjoyable riding mile after mile.
